KOWLOON CANTON RAILWAY.
BRITISH SECTION.
CHIEF RESIDENT ENGINEER'S OFFICE,
KOWLOON, 5th October, 1906.
TO SIR J.W.BARRY & PARTNERS,
CONSULTING ENGINEERS.

Gentlemen,
1. Since my letter of 21st September, the weather has been very bad. On the night of 26th, 4.80 inches of rain fell in about 24 hours, which did a great deal of damage to the South Face by scouring away the approach cutting and depositing silt over Bridge No.9 and other places.
It saturated the mountain side with water, so that the pump could not keep the shaft dry and the shaft got drowned out.
2. On the 28th evening, the typhoon gun again was fired and the typhoon blew with great violence from midnight on Friday to the afternoon of Saturday. This storm did a great deal of damage to the repair works which were being carried on after the last typhoon.
3. At the South Face the workshops had been started, viz. Blacksmiths and Fitters' shop etc., the framework of these were erected but were both destroyed by this typhoon as well as a lot of coolie lines, which were being re-erected.
